Thorn Park by the Vines was an internationally acclaimed luxury boutique hotel in the Clare Valley wine region in South Australia. Thorn Park by the Vines was sold as a private residence and closed, after 35 years continuous operation in October 2020

Located in a large contemporary country home, within a pristine private Australian bushland setting and vineyard setting. It is possible to have morning coffee and watch the kangaroos ambling amongst the vines. There are three large elegantly appointed rooms, all with en-suite facilities. Thorn Park by the vines can accommodate a maximum of six guests. The superbly appointed public areas are furnished with an eclectic collection of celebrated Australian artworks, antiques, and contemporary furnishings.

Owners David Hay and Michael Speers are ultimate mine hosts attending to every guest’s wish. David is respected as one of the country’s finest chefs. Dining at Thorn Park by the vines, is a unique experience, with wines matched from the Thorn Park by the vines extensive cellar.

Thorn Park by the Vines, a beautifully decorated bucolic hideaway close to the Clare township – look for the bridge over the road with rusted iron fretwork, known locally as the Harbour Bridge. Co-owner David Hay cooks a Euro-classical four-course dinner while his partner, Michael Speers, keeps busy topping up glasses with the impeccable wine selection.
